Conservative MP tables private bill for national dementia strategy

Former justice minister Rob Nicholson has tabled a private member’s bill in the House of Commons that calls on the provinces and all stakeholders to develop a cooperative plan to find a cure for Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias — Bill C-233.
“This enactment provides for the development and implementation of a national strategy for the health care of persons afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia,” says the summary text of the bill by the Conservative MP for Niagara Falls, Ont.
Last year the Conservatives used their then-majority to defeat a similar private member’s bill by former NDP MP Claude Gravelle. Nine Conservative MPs voted with Gravelle. Nicholson wasn’t one of them.
